Don't waste your money on the new ones. Honda vehicles go through 5 year cycles - completely redesigning every 5 years. Within the major design cycle, they 'freshen' each design at the 3 yeam mark. So for example, in 1996, the Civic was completely redesigned, followed by a freshening in 1999. In my opinion the 1999-2000 civics are much sharper that the 1996-1998. Similar for 2001-2005. The 2004-2005 models are much nicer than the 2001-2003. Another freshening of the civic is due for 2009. I would look at either a 1999-2000 (there are still some nice ones out there with low miles) or if you have more money to spend, get a 2004-5.

The LX model is the middle model that has everything you really need. CD, Power Windows and Locks, A/C, and keyless entry. If you want a sunroof, a better audio system, and alloy wheels, you will need to upgrade to the EX, and it will run you about $1700 more.

I personally like the 1992 to 2005 Civic designs which includes:5th Generation: 1992-19956th Generation: 1996-20007th Generation: 2001-2005While the new Civic isn't bad, I kinda don't like how it looks. At least the USDM version. The JDM version looks better. So I think anyway those Civics should be fine.
