Default Interference or non-interference

I broke a timing belt while driving. I have a1989 Accord LX 2.0L Carb motor. When the motor stalled it was like turning off the key. No noise, clunks bangs or vibrations. Just quietly stalled. I found the problem to be the timing belt had broken. I went to autozone.com to price repair part and there was this little note about it being an interference engine. I always thought that this particular car was non-intereference. Could someone confirm that I am right and autozone has it wrong.

I know about the bent valves on an interference motor, but would I have noticed anything if something catastrophic like major damage happened such as valve or possible piston damage. Thanks in advance.

Yes, it is an interference engine. Yes, I have seen valves get bent without any drastic noise.

The easiest way to check for bent valves is to measure valve lash. A bent valve will not close all the way and the lash will be very big.

Lucky me. I put a new belt on and it fired right up first click. Its pinging some now but a tune up should heal that problem.
