Default Honda Civic goes beep beep beep!

I have a 2004 Civic and i can't handle the beeping anymore!
It's not only for the set-belt warning but even if the keys are in and the door is open - i can't listen to the radio with the door open i can't even wind up the window without getting beeped at.

Does anybody know where i can find the beeper so i can muffle it ?

TeGGeR wrote back in 2005 about an Acura:

Where can i find this in the Civic?

Thanks in advance...

Man, i tried...
Took the panels off to get at the fusebox, and stuck my head in there, and it seemed to be comming from the steering column. Took those covers off and nothing beeping in there. Now it seems to be comming from behind the speedo...? Damn noise seems to come from everywhere - even tried stuffing a cloth in different areas to see if it gets muffled.
Then i started unplugging cables to see if it stops - still nothing.
Now i'm afraid i'll set the airbag off while my heads inside the dashboard!

Any clues?

yeah its crazy! have these cars been designed for a child? we are all adults driving these cars whats with the mad constant beeps?..
It beeps when you leave your keys in it even though it cant be locked without them in your hand.
You cant leave the keys in and have the door open without being driven nuts. Cmon are we that stupid we need to be reminded to put on our seatbelts?

enough to put me off our Civic altogether..

I never did find that pesky beeper - but i found another solution:

1. i disconnected the door switch, so the car thinks it's always closed.
2. i disconnected the seat belt switch, under the seat.

N.B. I wouldn't reccomend this to everyone - there are some drawbacks:
- Since the car thinks door is closed, the interior light doesn't come on. Also, if you don't turn the ignition on or open another door, it locks itself automatically after a minute or so.
- Alarm may be compromised too.
- I don't know if the car normally disables the airbag when you don't wear a belt, for safety reasons? anybody know? i've heard that it can be dangerous if it goes off and you not wearing a belt?
But as long as you wear the belt it should be ok...

Now, i do think seat belts are a good thing and i don't mind being reminded to wear one. As long as i'm reminded gently and politely.

To have a warning shreiking in my ear when all i'm trying to do
is pull the car into the garage, or maybe just open the door and turn the radio on - that's unaceptable harassment

Why not have the beeper only go off after you drive say, 100m without the belt.

BTW, car's stiil going beautifully, and very economical on the open road. Great brakes too. Nice car once it learns to zip it!

Hi,

It amazes me that Honda has not addressed this annoyance, even in my 2010 Civic. This is how I fixed it.

Remove the 3 obvious screws securing the bottom cover. The top cover is held by two hooks that go into very fragile boxes on the bottom cover. Press the front edge of the top cover in to remove. Be gentle or the bottom boxes will snap off! I'm attaching a simple drawing.

After the top cover is loose weasel the bottom cover off. There will be one green connector with 4 wires on the key switch. Remove this connector by gently squeezing the retaining latch on one side of the connector. There is a pinkish colored wire on the end. Cut the wire about 1/2 inch away in case you want to repair it for some reason in the future.

I tried for two hours to extract this pin without damaging it and gave up. There is a retaining latch that you can readily release, that holds all the pins in the connector body. Regardless, the pin would simply not come out.

As far as I can tell, the only function affected by this change is it prevents the beeper from beeping when the key is in the ignition and the door is open.

Good luck!

Jeff

Thanks jeffrs for that info.
It is amazing that this annoyance is still there in 2010!
Hope that pinkish colored wire doesn't affect any other systems...
Happy Driving,
B-)

For your car's radio to function, though, it needs a dependable radio control module. This module contains all the switches and controls needed for the radio to function properly. It's connected to wires and a power source that keeps the radio working. If you want a module that will keep your radio in tip top condition
