Don't really know, I'd buy a B18C if I bought a Honda engine. They have more potential than almost any Honda engine (exception possibly being the S2000 engine)

You can't get better than that for less. It sounds like an H22 from a Prelude for that kind of money. B18C is your best bet on that bodystyle but you'll pay more than double that for a swap. Also, if you are considering the 200 hp Prelude engine, you'll need to get the transmission and ECU from the donor car as well as purchase engine mounts from Hapsport.

for 1200 your best bet is going to be an integra LS motor b18b would be non vtec but could get complete swap and probably get it installed for 1200 or less. I would check local ads or craigslist. There is bound to be import friendly tuning shops or places local they usually get good deals in. You could also do a nice d16z6 (92-95 ex/si motor) with bolt ons and build it up as strong as a b series swap

ok first off its Vtec, not Vtech....second for 1200 you can buy another D serries 1.5 or 1.6 liter engine to put in.... other than that, you need to save money for a better engine. as for 200 hp, no stock engine come with that to the wheels.. maybe if you want an h22 which comes with 200 to the crank. but that engine with cost you 3000 or more to put in, and kill your car's handling . if anything you can also rebuild that engine, with new seals and bearings. hondas will last a lifetime if you treat them right

92 Honda Civic (you)93 Honda Civic (me)200 000 miles (you)187 000 miles (me)$1200 (you)$1700 (me)VTEC (you)VTEC (me)200 hp (you)170 hp (me)new (you)used (me)______Ok, enough summarizing. For $1200 I doubt you could get a 200 HP engine unless you do some serious work to vamp up the HP. A B16A would cost $1700 and that comes with 170 HP. For $1200 I think the best you could get is an upgraded/faster D-series engine.Where to find would depend on where you are located.

That h22 is the hp you are looking for but you will also need to buy new axles, motor mounts, ecu, transmission and some others, not to mention it is more difficult to install than a b series motor (your front suspension will also suffer in a civic from the weight of that motor and will have to be upgraded immediately if it hasn't been already). i think you might have to save more money and settle for a b16a, lsvtec or crvtec (b16a has great reliability though, you could find out more about these engines with a little research), especially if you plan on installing the engine yourself and have little experience. These are a little less in cost and will still provide pretty good hp, upwards of 160. However if you have budgeted $1200 for the motor alone and planned on the other expenses separately then that motor is great with a decent price if you find cheaper it won't be by much, but with all the extras for that engine you could be looking at $2500+ total if you swap it yourself.P.S. that is not a new engine, being a japanese import it has around 50k miles, finding a new engine will be extremely difficult unless it is built for a new civic (i.e. k20 which is for the new si, but that is EXPENSIVE). The links listed are just a few of many that i provided for some comparisons, some of them may even contain full kits to swap for you car including all parts required. Just look up jdm or usdm honda motors, jdm are much more plentiful though.Good luck, and enjoy your new engine... whatever it may be.
