Default Advice on high mileage hesitating Accord

Hello,

I have a 96 Accord EX 4-cylinder with 191,000 miles on it. It's been a great car with virtually no problems over the years, but now I've got a hesitation problem. It started last year at the end of the summer while I was driving. The check engine light came on and the car would hesitate on occasion when ever I attempted to accelerate. Gas mileage got worse too. I took it into the dealership, they did a diagnosis on the computer and said that the fuel injectors were clogged(sorry, I don't remember the codes). However, I didn't believe this to be the case because the car would run perfectly at night when it was cool, but during the heat of the day the problem would start up again. So, I took it to another dealership and they said that my EGR valve was clogged and they cleaned it. Well, that didn't fix it and the check engine light came back on and it would do its hesitation. I keep the car regularly serviced, and I went again and replaced the fuel filter just to cover all my bases. However, no luck in fixing it.

Then, a funny thing happened. Over the winter it completely went away. The check engine light turned off, and the car ran just fine. It was a cold winter. However, once summer came back around the problem came back and it seems to get worse and worse the hotter it is outside.

I was hoping someone had some insight on this. I heard that it might also be the throttle position sensor which kinda makes sense to me since it almost seems like the throttle gets "stuck" when I try to accelerate. In regard to the TPS, has anyone tried to install an aftermarket TPS? I'd rather not have to purchase and entirely new throttle body assembly. I've found a TPS from Omni which is $59.......has anyone tried installing one? If so, any pointers on the installation would be much appreciated.

I'm kinda frustrated with taking the Accord anywhere for a diagnosis because I feel like they don't have a clue and I keep getting ripped off. Thanks.

What do you mean by hesitating? are you cruising at a constant speed and then accelerating? My check engine light stays on all year except like November thru April. Runs much better in winter also.

Well I guess I'm going to take the Accord to the shop for a diagnosis again. However, to be more specific on the problem, it is directly effected by the outside temperature.

Last week it was hot here in Tennessee......in the mid 90s with high humidity. The Accord would constantly hesitate and would only clear up if it gave it a lot of gas to "push through" it. Then it would do it again. However, this week we had a cool front and temperatures got down into the 60s. The check engine light stayed on, but the car ran perfectly during the night. It had slight hesitation every now and then when the temperature got up to the mid 70s.

I remember when this problem came back again after the winter. The outside temperature was in the mid 70s and it would have a little hesitation here and there. Once the temperature got up into the low 80s the check engine light came back on, and the hesitation got worse and worse the hotter the outside temperature got.

Perhaps I just need to move to Alaska.....
