Default Is it necessary to find a dealer to install a\c

I got a 2001 honda civic hx coupe without a\c. Finding a dealer to install it will cost me $1600, is it safe to buy all the parts and find a mechanic to install it. I've seen some sugguestions choosing factory parts instead of aftermarket parts, how can I buy factory parts, from dealer?

I bought it for $5500 recently and didn't notice there was no a\c when buying it. Chicago is not very hot except for about one or two months, is it worth installing it?

Any suggestion is appreciated.
