If your car is a ex the stock motor is a d16z6 which is v-tec. It will say on your engine block what kind of engine it is but if your car has the original engine yes it has v-tec.

I'm pretty sure all 1992-1995 Civic EX's came with a D16Z6 SOHC (single over head cam) VTEC engine. and back in 1993 i don't think they were stamping the valve covers with VTEC just yet, not on the Civic at least.

the original motor is a d16z6 which is vtec but it might not have the original motor.look on the motor, to the left (passenger side) of the header where the block meets the trans, there will be numbers and letters.the d16z6 is vtec as well as the d15b or the d16y8.buy it could have a nonvtec motor with a vtec head...so the easiest way to tell if it has vtec is look for the vtec solenoid... if your facing the motor from the front of the car look on the back left side of the valve cover, right below it there will be a metal peice with 2 clips coming out of it. if its not there its not vtec.

this is where to look. http://img119.imageshack.us/img119/3...ioniq1.jpgtell me what the engine code is and ill tell u if its vtec or not. heres and easy way to tell though.drive it and if at around 5500 rpm it sounds like you floored it. you have vtec. heres a video so u know what it sounds like. it sounds like you floor it suddenly but you dont.http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...qAOPrJSrDAVTEC hits at about 20-21 seconds and again at about 43-44 seconds. its very distiguishable.so find the code and u can email me or instant message me and i can fill you in
