Default 1998 Honda Accord Stalls Out-HELP NEEDED

Hi There,

Recently I've been having problems with my 98 honda accord stalling out on me periodically when I'm driving the car. Once the car stalls out, it takes between 2-5 minutes to restart the car. I brought my car to Honda and they informed me that it may be due to my engine knock sensor, and/or the internal parts of the distributor, coil, and ignitor. However, when I researched recalled parts on my honda make and model, it states that the ignition switch was a recalled part on my car with the exact same symptoms I've been experiencing. I've brought my car to another shop to get a second opinion, and they think it only has something to do with my ignition switch. However, other reviews on goggle and other forums state that it may be the ignition control module, main relay, and/or coil. I'm so confused, and I don't know what the problem really is or what is the root cause. This is a safety issue, and I really need to make sure that the root cause is fixed. Does anyone have any ideas of what my problem is? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Default Re: 1998 Honda Accord Stalls Out-HELP NEEDED

hi there

I've got a 2002 accord and my dads got a 2001 2.0se. Over the past two weeks his car has started cutting out completely whilst he's driving it. Its frightened the life out of him each time. I took a look at it and noticed that when the ignition keys in the 2nd ignition position (the one before the starter motor is engaged) you only have to turn the key a tenny weeny bit anticlockwise and the electrics kick in and out. In fact its so sensitive if you let the key go slightly when you start the car the force of the spring turns the key backwards far enough to prevent it from starting & running. This would appear to be an ignition switch problem - its like the ignition switch is on a hair trigger.

Has your car been sorted yet?
