Default P1167 code

Hi everyone- I'm new here and hope I can post this question in this forum. I just joined and I don't seem to have access to any of the others.

I have a 2000 Accord which was hit in the front with air bag deploy. We're in the process of rebuilding it. The radiator was up against the O2 sensor and damaged the wires and insulation where they enter the sensor. The cel comes on with code P1167 (Primary HO2S (No. 1) Heater system)

I've replaced the sensor with a Bosch #15733. When I clear the codes with my OBDII handheld reader, the cel comes on again in a few minutes after start up and the same code appears. I've checked the fuses in the ends of the dash panels. The LAF heater fuse on the passenger side was originally blown but has been replaced and is still holding.

We have not replaced the airbags yet and don't know if that could in any way be affecting the circuit. I've seen stranger things in wiring.

Any other fuses I might check? Any other ideas? I'm not sure where else to check.

Thanks much- trying to get this guy back on the road with $4 gas killing me.

Take a close look at the O2 sensor connector and the wire harness. Could be a pinched wire.

I just came in from doing that very suggestion. I checked everything I could and it all looks great. I rechecked ever fuse under the hood and on both sides of the dash. I disconnected and reconnected the battery, I reread it on the OBD handheld and recleared it.

It seemed to be pretty clear cut with the bad wires on the old sensor. One of the heater wires was actually broken through. I'm at a dead-end unless the new sensor is bad but I don't know of a way to test them.

Could be the computer, the circuit that reads the O2 sensor.

Here's the results. I messed around with the Bosch sensor for a couple days. I checked connections, wiring, fuses, plugs, wiring diagrams, other forums, etc...After talking to several others and looking around the internet, I can say, do not use aftermarket O2 sensors on Hondas. I sucked it up and bought the apparently gold plated factory O2 sensor for $184 from my local dealer. Have your VIN with you to get the correct one.

I installed it, cleared the codes and it's perfect. Passed smog today and got it licensed.

The Honda parts guy snickered at me when I told him I had tried the Bosch. He just smiled and said, "Didn't work did it? They never do."

Time is money and I wasted a couple days of my time. Wish I had them back- it'd be worth the extra money.
