First and foremost, I know VERY little about cars and car maintenance, so I may not know all the technical terminology for things I am about to describe, sorry guys.

I drive an 88' Honda Accord and my father has told me there are a few things wrong with it.

1. He says the CV joint is going out. It makes a loud clicking noise when I turn either way, but only if I accelerate while turning.

2. Sometimes, when I am driving, my car will rev like I'm accelerating, or like I'm driving in neutral but I'm not. My gears aren't slipping from drive to neutral, I don't think.

I don't have other problems with this car...

I was hoping to make the trip back home soon to visit my family and my father thinks that my car might be able to make it home but my boyfriend disagrees. The drive is about 520 miles one way (from Rapid City, SD to Lincoln, NE).

I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this issue. I am certainly taking my car in for an oil change, and get all the fluids and such checked before I leave, but if there is a great chance of my car not making it then I am not certain I want to take that risk. Thanks for all your help!

I wouldn't drive it any further than to a good independent shop. Clicking CV joints can lock up. Imagine one wheel skidding on the highway. Sounds like the transmission is on its way out.

This is a good car, but it might cost more than it's worth to get it straight.

I'm attached to my '88 Accord and I try to keep it in good shape so I won't be hit with multiple major problems at once.
