Default '99 Honda Civic EX, sluggish after replacing timing belt

Hey all,

Had the timing belt replaced on the wife's Honda over the weekend and now noticing extremely sluggish response from a dead stop. Mechanic doesn't seem to think this is related as the timing belt only keeps the valve's firing in order - or something (please excuse my extreme lack of mechanical knowledge). Before I march back in with my forum results... is there any other potential problems that could be the cause of this problem or is the timing belt the most likely culprit??

The car starts fine, it's just lost it's getup and go so to speak... thank you in advance for your help, your expert advice is appreciated.
