Default What is the towing rate for a 1999 Honda Civic 4dr Sedan?

I am planning on renting a 4x8 trailer from uhaul and towing it with my 1999 honda civic to go from Vancouver to Quebec City. I am wondering if that's going to simply trash my car or is it doable. The trailer weight will probably be around 1500 lbs, and I have a class I trailer hitch installed which is good up to 2000 lbs. Can anyone let me know if my little 4 cylinder motor, 5 speed transmission, and stock brakes can handle the job?I also have a class 2 license (bus license), so I know how to handle and speed heavier vehicles going up and down hills. So the careful driving is on my side, but can the car handle it?

Maximum towing rate is 1000 lbs. MAXIMUM.Having owned quite a few Civics, I wouldn't try it unless you really don't care if something happens to the car.

I don't know the towing rate, but I towed a 4x6 behind a VW bug and it made it up over a mountain. If you think you know your equipment, if you have strong clutch and know for sure, go for it. class 2 license is something on paper. What happens in the clutches/emergencies that count. What happens when you brake and it doesn't. go for it.

If its rated to tow at all its probably about 1,000 lbs. Even then you would significantly shorten the life of your car. Its going to hurt your engine, trans, and brakes.Your car only weighs about 2,400 lbs. So once its moving you will struggle to stop it and even keep it going straight safely.
