Default Help with Door Lock Mystery on 2001 CRV

Ok,
First, the door locks work - sort of. However, they will ONLY work one of two ways: 1) the remote lock works; 2) the inside door lock button's work. None of the locks work manually or with the key!

They will only unlock using the remote, they will not unlock with the key. The two rear passager doors will open after repeated pushes of the remote, but when they are closed, they are locked again.

I can see that the door posts do not appear to be moving up and down as they should, just enough to lock and unlock with the remote. Why I can't pull or push them manually is beyond me.

Besides being a pain, the scary part is that if the battery dies in the remote, I am out of luck.

Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve
