Default Steering Lock?

I have a Honda Civic 1992 & can't drive it as the steering has locked & i can't seem to get it to unlock. The key won't even turn even when i try turning the steering wheel. Any suggestions? Will I need to change the ignition barrel? I had this problem before & spent $300 just to have someone unlock the steering *blushes* I diffinitely looked stupid, lucky the guy was nice enough to ignore it & just checked the rest of my car.

try wiggling the steering wheel left to right while turning the key. usually this will help unlock the column. this is not an uncommon problem. if this doesnt work you may have to have it towed to your auto service provider

well this is what you do, put your key in the ignition and keep pressing on the gas pedal, you gotta jerk the steering wheel really hard left or right, you will eventually get it unlocked its nothing big its real easy, id come and do it for ya but u live on a diff continent lol good luck cutie

Dont do what the last guys said. Your gas pedal has NOTHING to do with this. If you cannot unlock your steering by wiggling it while turning the key, you have a problem inside your ignition. You might have to remove the steering wheel to get to your locking mechanism. It might be jambed.

Try really hard to turn the wheel in both directions and keep jiggling the key you'll get it unlocked, plus be sure the gear shifter is fully in park too. Try to always be sure that you park with your wheels perfectly straight , plus if you've not had a wheel alignment done in a while it might be a good idea , especially if you're noticing that you're driving on a straight away and the steering wheel is way off centre. If the wheels aren't straight or you've a car that needs an alignment that can cause the steering wheel to jam like that too. Hope that helps and best of luck.
