They say the Honda Civic LX gets 25/36 miles per gallon. I drove one from the Bay Area to Portland running the air conditioner the whole time. I also drove a Focus the same route doing the same thing with the air conditioning on. For the Civic it took 3 seperate fill ups to get to where I needed to go. The Focus only had to fill twice and there's still plenty of gas before it needs to be filled up. So if you're planning on getting a Civic don't do it!

All the cars estimated milage reports are based on "lab quality" tests under ideal conditions. I have owned Hondas for years, and my son and daughters all have had Hondas. We have all enjoyed outstanding service and always got great milage. Sounds like something is wrong with the car because the honda should have beat the Focus in the milage department... By the way, which one has the bigger gas tank. You need to check the miles per Gallon before finalizing you judgement.

Have you taken into account the size of the gas tank? I had a Toyota for years and it got fairly good gas mileage. I now have an Accord and even though the tank is smaller and I have to fill up slightly more often, I get better gas mileage.UPDATE: the air on versus off only makes about a 40 mile difference in total miles per tank according to a few experiments I've read. Try pubmed if you want to read more (not the dealers site). The mileage they give is under ideal cercumstances, no hills, no stopping and starting (for highway), all of which actually make a difference over a long distance. My Accord gets about 29-30 mpg town and 33-35 mpg highway.
