Default If I was to bring my Civic to Germany, what kind of emission laws would I be facing?

I can't see emissions laws being an issue. Europe has always been about a dozen years behind us in pollution standards. You might have to make some modifications to the lighting systems of the car to comply with their sidemarker and rear fog light rules.

my question why would you want to bring an US spec Civic to Germany, when you can get the Type R over there. anyway, i don't think it's a good decision, you should sell it because moving it with a container will cost you around 7k. Without container(scratches) is about 4k. this does not include custom duties.

It depends on how old your car is. I don't know the exact data, but if you bring it over you have to get it checked - and depending on your emissions you will get a green, yellow or red sticker. Some cities don't allow yellow and red-sticker cars in the city centers. (also, before your car is allowed on the road in Germany, it has to pass the TUV Test, where they check everything from emissions to brakes and over-all condition of the vehicle to make sure it's safe on the road. that test is required every 2 years). But there are a bunch of Civics in Germany, so I guess it wouldn't really be that much of an issue if your car is in good shape over all.

I am a soldier living in germany with a 96 civic ex. If it is possible for you, I would advise you to sell the civic and buy a car over here. here are a few reasons:

1. Shipping the car over can cause rust to your bolts and metal ( happened to me)
2. They have the autobahn over here, your car will not be able to handle the top speeds on the autobahn. If you try to keep up, you will end up damaging your car ( unless it is modified to some degree )
3. They have fairly decent prices on cars over here. Although the Euro is .62 right now ( that means it takes 62 cents to buy a dollar so every Euro you spend will cost 30 cents more then you are used to paying.
4. Everything is smaller over here such as roads and parking places. Just know you are going to get into small fender benders and definitely some door dings.

as for emissions you have nothing to worry about. anything over the year 86 and you will get a green sticker.
