I've never done this, nor have most people, directly, I think, due to the cost exceeding the value of a 17 year old Honda Civic, by orders of magnitude. But, from what I can imagine:You'd need motor mounts, to adapt the later engine to your body. You'd need transmission adaptors, unless you plan to replace the transaxle, as a whole, which is probably the more sensible route. If you did that, you'd need some customized CV shafts and related parts for coupling the transaxle to your front drive wheels, as I doubt there are direct Honda parts substitutes. You'd need to replace the gas tank with a gas tank/fuel pump/evaporative emission control system suitable for use on a fuel injected engine. You'd need the Engine Control Module electronics (to operate the fuel injection system), and a wiring harness to tie the engine's sensors to it (it's a big job changing out, or heavily modifying a car's main wiring harness). You'd need a substantially new exhaust system. You might need new linkage parts to adapt the driver controls, particularly if you have power steering, power brakes, or a clutch to deal with; I suspect a lot of this would be custom fabrication, because of the lack of exactly interchangable Honda parts. You'd need to carefully compare the capacity of the original radiator and cooling fan to a v-tec engine's needs, and I suspect, you'd need to replace it, and custom fabricate some way of hanging the new radiator, cooling reservoir and fan assembly in the old body.Good luck with this.
