Default B16 distributor problem?

I just put in a new cap and rotor on my distributor because the rotor broke and my car wouldnt start, it would crank but woulnt turn on, when i checked the dizzy i found little magnets and broken plastic the came of the dizzy, it seemed like the broken plastic broke the points of the shaft, when i installed the new rotor and cap i had a car started right up but it wouldnt rev or 3500 rpms, my question is "if the points(magnets) were broken, would this cause my engine to not rev over 3500rpms?" please i dont want to hear "take it to a dealership and have them tell you.." all im askin is this enough to keep my engine from hitting more than 3500rpms

b16 engines' distributor are called breaker less type(no contact point) the magnets does the work of the contact point and provide signal when to break and connect hi voltage current to your spark plugs. When magnets are loss or weakened it affects the current that goes to your plugs. In your case it is better to go to second hand shops,surplus shops or junkshops to buy a distributor assy. it would be cheaper than buying it brand new. but before you remove the distributor, make sure that the rotor is pointed to number 1 spark plug harness and make a mark with a permanent marker from distributor base and adjacent engine block before you loosen the mounting bolts and pull it off. This is to make sure that your engine timing wont be affected. if you have further querries email me.
