When ever i shift from first to second gear (automatic transmission) the transmission goes into neutral for about a second, revs up, then goes into gear with a loud popping sound and a jerk. I did recently run my car off the road and got a good amount of water and mud under the car, enough to make the floorboard wet for a few days. I am thinking that i need to flush the transmission fluid and refill it, but i am looking for some insight from someone who knows. Also, when i go from a complete start, the car shakes a little (cant really explain it any better.)Also, i am not the best and driving the car slow, i tend to speed and jump on the gas pretty quick. Could this have messed up the transmission? I am afraid that the car's transmission is going to break on my in the near future.It is a 2001 Honda accord 1.8 liter 4 cylinder VTECThanks to anyone who can help me out.I dont know if this is of importance or not, but i do have a recently installed performance air filter that wasnt done professionally. I took an old air intake tube from an acura integra, sawed it in half and it fit perfectly in my car. Could this be causing my problems.Also, the car has 79,000 miles on it.

Yeah it has something to do with the transmission, go in and have it check out and fix.

Unfortunately this is a common problem with your car. Most likely you will need to replace the transmission. It could be something else causing the problem. Take your car to the Honda dealer ASAP and have them check it out--do not drive it if possible. Honda extended the transmission warranty on 2000-2001 Accords to 7 years/100,000 miles, so if the transmission is not working properly due to manufacturing problems, then they may replace without any fees. Unfortunately, you are on your own if it was due to the water.

yeah u messed up ur tranny the poping noise is due tothe gears trying to engage but they cant get it fixed

First change the transmission fluid to see if the problems goes away, I doubt it but it is by far the cheapest thing to do and it couldn't hurt. See of you still have warranty coverage, if so let them figure it out.

A 1.8 liter 4 cyl in a 2001 Accord. Uh, yeah I don't think so.
