Default Help With 88 Honda Accord

Hello all!

I just bought an 88 Honda Accord today. When I inspected the car, I found only one problem with it: the clutch seemed to be slipping a bit. I thought, "no problem ... drive her home, buy a clutch kit, work on it, done". However, as I was driving her home, it didn't seem like the clutch was slipping, as it was slipping only in first, and a little in second gear, and I took a rather large hill, going 120km/h, with her in fifth gear and she didn't slip at all.

About 25Km into the trip I heard a "kachunk" noise from under the hood, and then she was slipping hardcore, and roughly. I pulled over. As I walked up, I could see she was leaking some type of fluid. Popped the hood open and saw:

Default Re: Help With 88 Honda Accord

Horror of horrors! I'm guessing that's the transmission that has the lovely gaping hole in it, can anyone here confirm?

So talking repair costs now, I'm assuming I will have to get a new transmission, and possibly the clutch too. I had originally thought that just the clutch was slipping, but if the transmission was dying, the clutch could (theoretically) engage just fine, but that wouldn't make a difference if the system was failing at the next point ...

Does anyone know a good place to get replacement parts for my honda? Should I attempt this repair on my own or take it to a shop? (I'm guessing the parts are cheap enough, but labour would be mondo expensive)
