Default 86 Prelude Cooling Fans

New to this site - great info.

My 1986 Prelude SI overheats when stopped. Fan operation appears to be the problem.

The driver's side fan only comes on when the car is hot and ignition in OFF position. The fan shuts off if I turn key to RUN and restarts when turned off.

The passenger side fan (AC condensor fan i think) does not turn on when AC is turned on, or at any other time I can see.

I pulled the wire off the coolant temperature switch and put a jumper across it to simulate switch closure - car was cold with key in ON position - still no fans.

I put direct 12v leads to passenger side fan and the motor does work.

I bought this car new, but have not driven it in 2-3 years. I seem to remember the drivers side fan would cycle on and off in city driving, when stopped and after car was turned off until temperature was lowered.

What is the correct operation of these fans? Any other ides?
