every now and then your whole gauge breaks internally, mine did after a year but my fuel and temp gauge's were still working. it could also do with the censor in front. just gotta take it in or pull out the cluster and check the wiring. make sure the screws around the wires are tightened in the back.

Buy a honda civic service manual if you don't already have one. This will help you familiarize yourself with your car and the location for your speed sensor. To find your speed sensor, you'll need to remove your air intake pipe against the throttle opening. Directly below the throttle opening you'll see a cable connected to the speed sensor right on top of the transmission. It has 2 small bolts on each side (not the red-painted bolt) that secures the speed sensor to the sensor mount against the transmission.Check to make sure that the cable to the sensor is firmly secured. If this doesn't help, you may need to buy a new speed sensor. It should cost about $115 from your local auto parts store.Good luck!
