which is like a frankenstien motor. will it use more gas because it would have more horses than a regular b18c engine? or will it be better gas mileage because of the vtec head (valve timing)? i was wondering because i have a b18b motor lying in the garage and i know that the b18b block is perfect for turbo. and ive always wanted to turbo it. so is it possible to turbo it and also get the gsr head in it? if it is im planning to put performance internals or maybe type r internals. can it be possible to have that setup and still be a reliable daily driver? what parts will i need and steps do i take to make do this setup?all helpful answers are appriciated. thax in advance.

Yes you can do it, it's commonly referred to as an LS/VTEC, even though the B18B1 is also found in the RS & GS models. You will use a little more gas, especially at higher rpms when vtec kicks in. There are a lot of people who turbocharge their LS/VTECS. Of course, like every engine, you're going to have to prepare the engine to handle the added power. You should stay away from Type R internals if you're going to turbocharge it. The Type R pistons are for high compression, which isn't good for a beginner when it comes to turbo setups. All the other Type R parts are pretty much useless in the bottom end of an LS/VTEC. The LS has a longer stroke than the other B-series (shares the same stroke as the CR-V B20's though), so by switching out the rods or crankshaft you'd be lowering displacement. Here's an article on "How to Build a Reliable LS/VTEC": http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1676914In addition to those parts listed, a company called Golden Eagle makes an kit that comes with the oil supply lines, and dowels needed to easily mate the B-series vtec head onto the B18B1 short block.

yeah, i agree with the other answer. it's called an ls/vtec and it's VERY common. i'd stay with the gsr internals if you're thinking about turboing it. it'll help keep the compression down which would help you not blow your motor if you turbo it. try using either the b16 or type r intake manifold over the gsr intake manifold since the gsr has butterfly valves inside it. they help out for low end torque, but the b16/type r intakes have a better flow and are better for the top end. if you're planning on building the engine at all or possibly turbo/supercharging it, i'd build the bottom end before you put it in. like forged pistons and shafts. all the goodies. it's a lot easier to do it when the engine is not in the car. it just makes more sense to do it now if your think you might turbo/supercharge it. hope this helps

lsvtec might use a tad bit more fuel in normal driving because of the higher compression and of course if your in it alot then it'll use more gas but still not alot. my last lsvtec still got like 25mpg. do not however use type r internals in the ls if you plan to boost it. you will need lower compression not higher. the type r internals would make for a nice all motor monster. remember to get it tuned!
