want to buy a car in the $16k range (give or take a thousand or two) and am considering the above two. I love toyota but I have heard the corolla's brakes lock up while driving. Which car would you choose?

My 03 Corolla brakes have NEVER locked up! I love my car.

Honda civic all the way. The one thing the civic has achieved that the corolla can never achieve, is its incredible reliability. That car will serve you well for up to 20 years. Thats why you see so many old civics on the road. They are really well built machines. The corolla on the other hand i find ugly and is known to have many problems with it.

Honda civic, we have both but our civic is way better!! By the way I had a problem with the brake of my corolla, it was a stupid sound, lasted for 6 months, they tried to weasel their way out of repairing it but finally they did and now it works fine, but too much of a hassle.

whoever told u that was totally wrong and obviously dont know what they are talkin about. toyota's are far way better cars than honda's no questions asked. and the locking up thing.. maybe 1 in a million thing. i have worked for toyota and they are by far the best cars ever made...go with the toyota..u wont regret it...

The Corolla ! i love my corolla, its fast, dependable and excellent handling. trust Toyota they have an excellent reputation

The thing about honda's is they fall apart. They will run forever but don't expect them to look great after so many years (especially if you live in colder climates)
