i replaced my VC gasket in my 89 prelude si and the center VC bolts head broke off leaving the shaft in the stud with no way to get it out. what do i need to do to fix this?? how much am i looking at. i did the most simple thing and had all sorts of stuff break. its just old.the studs opening is 1/2 a centimeter. will the easy out work?? or would it be easier to get a new VC stud

OMG! I had the same thing happen when I was changing my starter. I had a bold head snap off and I was PISSED. Anyway, if it will fit (hondas are small compact engines) you need to get an easy out drill bit. You drill it into the bolt and then take a ratchet and get it out. If not, take it to the mechanic.

let's try some easy and inexpensive things first:1. if you can get a small screwdriver on it, simply try to back it out. the end might be rough enough to give you a bit of grip.2. with the same screwdriver and a small hammer, try to tap the broken bolt counter-clockwise around the edge. sometimes you can get lucky and make it back out. easy, don't mess things up by being too forceful.3. with a small drill bit, drill into the center of the broken stud a mm or 2.go to your local hardware and buy an "easy-out." place the tip in the drilled hole and turn until it grips and begins to back the broken piece out.4. buy a reverse drill bit, chuck it up in an electric drill and gently try to get it to back the broken piece out.5. if you get this far unsucessfully, it will be time to drill and tap out the hole. get help from someone with mechanical or machinist experience. paying for good advice is better than free advice from some yutz!
