its vtec dude not vtech.....if ur gonna swap hopefully your car is stick and not auto. or you can just keep the engine you have and go turbo..if you want some more hp you can consider getting a short ram intake, headers, catback exhaust, lighter flywheel, better spark plugs and wires

your vtec engine should already be dohc, and yes it is safe to swap it with almost any other honda engine!

D17A2 * VTEC-E * Found in: o 2001-2005 Honda Civic EX o 2001-2005 Honda Civic Si (Canada only) + Displacement : 1668 cm³ + Bore and Stroke : 74.98 mm X 94.4 mm + Compression : 9.9:1 + Power : 127 hp @ 5800 rpm & 114 ft·lbf @ 4800 rpm + Valvetrain : SOHC VTEC-E + Fuel Control : OBD-2 MPFII think your car is already good enough, if anything increase power with a turbo kit ($3000 - $5000), intercooler, air filter and a full exhaust system. Your civic should then be boss. After you have your turbo on purchase a boost controller and up the boost to 15psi.Nice car..

for the cost of the swap, go buy one with a dohc in it. also be aware that they take hi test gas. about the only way to get some more power is to turbo it which may involve some improvments to engine, clutch etc. u want to go fast, buy a 5 liter mustang or a v-6 mitsubishi. for now, just watch fast and furious, dont be one. those guys drop 20k into those cars!

Safe, sure as long as you have the mechanical know how or pay someone who does. Worth it from an economic standpoint. Probably not. It would be cheaper to buy a 2000 si.

So many horrible answers here. Adding basic bolt-on to your stock engine would be a waste of time and $. You'll notice a change in throttle response and sound, but you're really not going to gain much power from them. But, it depends on how much of a power pickup you're looking for.Anything more than basic bolt-ons, you'll have to know if you're going to end up dealing with emissions testing. Different places have different rules on emissions testing so you'll need to know if that's going to be an issue. If emissions aren't a problem, then turbocharging your car or doing a K-series swap are really you're only worthy options. There aren't too many turbo kits out there for your car, so you'll have to deal with whatever the best kit is that you can find. You'll also have to figure out what kind of engine management systems will work for your car, because that is something you will HAVE to get. Most turbo kits come with inefficient "engine management"; which usually consists of larger injectors, upgraded fuel pump, and an FMU. This is not enough for real reliability, and it will also hurt your gas mileage.Your best bet, and the most expensive option, is to do a K20A swap from the RSX Type-S or the jdm Integra Type R (their version of our RSX). These engines have far more potential than your stock engine, and respond to basic bolt-ons better. There have been documented cases where someone has gained 14+whp from just an aftermarket intake (you won't see anywhere near that from your stock engine or from older Honda engines).
