I am going to buy a used tranny from a wrecked car-mine has suddenly started making alot of bearing noise. Do I need to get one from a Honda with the same size motor? Or can I get one from a car with a 1.6 or 2.0? ThanksI think 85% of the 90 civics came with a 1.5 but it seems like there are alot more with a 1.6 in the junkyards... I am just wondering if the engine size amkes a difference. I know that it probably has to come from a 1990 civic b/c that was an "oddball" year- different in some ways from an 89 or 91I dont really trust those guys at the junkyards...I am a woman and most of the time they will just tell me what they think I want to hear so I will buy from them. I dont want to buy something that wont even work

Talk to the wrecking yard, more than likely you will need a one out of the same kind of Honda because they change models often.

You will need a transmission from any 91 or earlier Honda Civic. Otherwise you will need a new tranny mount because they went to a Hydro trans 92 and later. The motor you have is a D15 so will need a trans from a D15 or D16.You can easily find these transmissions on ebay or craigslist. You will not know if it works unless you can bring someone who knows about transmissions. You really have little choice.
