This problem has been getting progressively worse over the last 4 or 5 months. It has been cranking slower and slower each time, and recently, has just barely been turning over. The battery is about 12 months old (making me think that isn't the problem) Once it gets started, it runs just fine. However, if the engine is warm and I start it up again, the cranking hesitates just the same. Any thoughts about possible causes? I'm not psyched about taking it in to a repair shop - what can I do on my own to figure this out? Thanks!

it sounds like it could be your starter or altenator.

yep, if the battery is that new it could be the alternaotr, or you just bought a cheap battery. see if someone can give you a boost to see if it turns over faster

the above answers are good but they forgot to mention,check your cables from the battery,wires to the starter and alternator,and ground components for corrosion,if that checks ok,charge your battery and try again,if the battery comes back to life,then starts to lose cranking amps over time,you could have a draw on the system,or a faulty battery.
