I had a problem with my car that required it being at a repair shop for close to two weeks. Though the problem was engine related and not electrical i noticed after i picked up the car that the rear window defroster was not working. I also noticed that my wipers will work at second and third controls but will not work on the first one. I went back to the shop and complained since this problems were not present when i dropped the car off with them and they told me they did not work on anything related to wipers or rear defroster. They now want me to bring it back for repair for extra fees. I will love to just fix it myself but i need all the help i can get!

I'd say check for blown fuses, but then again, the wiper problem sounds related to the switch, I doubt the speed controls are fused seperately from each other...Also, the defroster wires are kinda brittle, check the fuse, and ohm out the wires where they come off the glass. Good Luck!

I assume you are talking about the Defogger, not the defroster. A defogger is comprised of electric heat strips that are adhered to the inside of the Glass. If you are talking about the defogger then the steps to check it are: Start the car. Turn the defogger on and listen for the click. If you hear the click then you know the switch is working and that the relay is also working. Next step is to take a 12 volt test light and connect it from terminal to terminal on the window connections. If you are getting power to the window then everything up front is working. If not then you can stay up front in your search for your problem. If your defogger still does not work with power to it, then you need to look closely at the heat strips on the window. It only takes one little break anywhere in the strip to cause the defogger to stop working. That is why you should never scrape the inside of a rear window or slam things up near the glass. There are kits available to repair these heat strips at auto parts stores. The hardest part is finding the break.Wipers.... I suspect a switch problem.
