Default can I actually trade this car in for a new Honda?

I have this 23000 mile ford focus that was given to me for my senior year of high school. It is always breaking and the dealership wants me to trade it in for a new focus- but I really want a honda accord. The ford dealership salesman tells me that I can only trade a focus for a brand new focus and not anything else like a honda because Honda doesn't do that, honda dealerships only takes hondas as trade ins. My brother says that they are idiots! Who is right? What can I do? Am I trapped forever buying fords? After this experience I wont ever drive another ford again. So, am I truely trapped??? Thanks for reading my question.the manager at the ford dealership tells me that what the salesman tells me is absolutely correct. But why???

You can go ANYWHERE with that focus and trade it in. You probably won't get much for it as it is one of Ford's worst cars. But then again, what car from Ford is actually good?!?!? What the dealership is telling you is totally false and they should be reported to the better buisness association nearest you. This is yet another example of why Ford is failing and in a huge way! I am truely sorry you were treated this way. And to think that my answers about Ford questions that Ford owners post here are always removed by the answers community! This type of thing is exactly why I hate Ford period. Go and buy a honda, they WILL accept it as a trade in! Don't listen to that rediculous Ford dealership at all, they are totally playing you for a fool. Good luck, and I hope you get your accord!

You should look up the ''lemon law'' for your area. sounds like a pretty new car and if you fit the bill they pay the bill

It sounds to me like the dealer is trying to help you get Ford to replace the vehicle under the "Lemon Law"What the dealership is referring to is not a typical "trade-in" but I think they are trying to help you get assistance from Ford by submitting a claim on your behalf under the "Lemon Law"If I am correct, your "Lemon Law' rights would allow the Manufacturer to replace your vehicle with another at very little expense to you.The Manufacturer can only replace your vehicle with another from the SAME manufacturer. If you are in the US Please review the Lemon Law for your particular state at this website:*******Copy from lemon law info site******Learn More About Lemon LawsEvery state has a lemon law. Lemon laws establish standards for when vehicles should be repurchased or replaced by the manufacturer. The lemon laws contain eligibility requirements, notice requirements, and also set out specific remedies that a consumer may recover in a legal action against the manufacturer if a vehicle cannot be fixed to conform to the warranty after a reasonable number of repair attempts. It is important for you to know your rights and responsibilities. http://www.us.bbb.org/WWWRoot/SitePa...49*********end copy*************************I am in the US & am familiar with US laws & procedure. If you are a resident of our neighbor to the north, I will have to provide you with additional info. For Canadian Lemon Laws please contact me via the email link from my profile page & I will try to help you from there. You may also want to review your warranty booklet that is in your owner packet which came with your car.The Owners Manual books will also give all the contact information for the Better Business Bureau and to Ford Motor Company dispute board etc. (US & Canada)While a typical "Trade in" can be done at ANY dealer, & ANY manufacturer of your choice....this type of trade can be an expensive loss to you.Pursuing disputes with an auto manufacturer is a time sensitive matter. If the dealership is to assist you in doing so, you may have to act rather quickly. My advice to you would be to go to a Honda dealer & see what the "trade in" value of your vehicle would be & what the new Accord will cost you. Don't forget that you will have to pay off the balance that you still owe (if any) own on the Focus loan. You will get no monetary assistance on the balance of that prior loan. And you may owe more on the Focus than its actual value as a trade in.After you've done that, if you feel the Accord is affordable to you, by all means, trade it in ....its a nice car & you will enjoy it.....but remember that your loan balance for the Focus will be added to the loan on the Accord.Therefor your monthly payment will be much higher than a normal contract on the same vehicle. If Ford is willing to take back the Focus providing it meets the requirements of the "lemon law" , they will replace it ONLY with another Ford product. And they MAY assist you monetarily for the loan balance on the "lemon" Focus.THEN after you have your NEW Focus (or other Ford product if you choose) you might be able to trade the NEW car for another manufacturers vehicle at a lesser financial loss to you.I hope this explains things more clearly for you.
