Default 89 honda civic my baby!!! all i have please help!!?

have a 89 honda civic sedan, just currently it started making a slight knocking sound comin from driver side, thought maybe it might be the car needed to warm up a little longer. but its still there. this is my only means of transportation, please any advice and all advice will be considered. thank you in advance.sorry I guess i need to explain more kinda anxious for answers, okay I hear the slight knockin when im driving and and when im in park. my car being a 89 only has 153,000 miles on it. i know its not a blown head gasket ive had that before know what it feels like,! lol...my car isnt vibrating. and its still driveable just scared to drive it dont want to make things any worse.does the knocking sound increase with the engines speed?no it doesnt sounds like a constant knockin. and does it sound like anything is loose? No doesnt sound like it to me.how does it drive besides the knock. was runnin fine before then.

In my opinion either the oil that you are using is to old or the wrong weight or the motor has had is last run. What you need to do is get a compression check done by a mechanic and get them to check your big end bearings also , or on a more basic note being a front wheel drive vehicle get them to also check your side engine mounts. good luck...

if theryes white smoke coming out of your exhaust then you have a blown head gasketif not then knock can be caused by diff things, your timing belts may be stretched check them, you have a oil pump problem engine doesnt have correct oil pressure basically your engine has a lubrication problem.

I know its like a rattle sound that comes and goes. Those are the valve lifters, it's common japan made cars have this sound with more than 100,000 miles. you can try checking if the oil is not too old, or if level is correct, if that is ok, you can get at the Autozone an "oil detergent" like Gunk's "CD2", if the sound doesn't dissappear, you will need to change it, it is about 150 Usd (parts and instalation).

most of the answers i read have at least some accuracy about the possible causes. I personally would go with engine oil change using an oil not heavier than 10w 30 the honda valve trains can be a little noisy in cold weather make sure engine is warming up completely (thermostat) other than that without seeing the car or more detailed imfo it's anybodys guess.

I almost thought that you may have some worn out rubber boots on your driver's side axle CV joints. This could cause some knocking sounds as the torn part knocks into parts of the car underneath. But if you're idle and not moving for over 30 seconds and still hear the knocking, it may not be torn rubber boots on your axle CV joints. The only thing spinning at idle are your belts and the parts connected to spinning the belts (alternator, a/c, water pump, etc). But then again, you mentioned that it is not a constant sound which means the knocking varies the faster you drive? Then we're back to your CV boots. To make sure, I would inspect your rubber CV boots at the axle anyway. Turn your wheel as far as you can and with a flashlight check behind your wheel hub to see if your outer boot is torn (looks like a part of a plunger) and notice grease trails around the area. There's also an inner boot on the other end of the axle that you may want to inspect. You'ld have to jack up the front of your car to slide underneath to look for signs of tear, wear, and grease trails. If you do find tear, wear, or grease...it's time to replace those rubber boots to keep the grease lubricating and protecting your CV joints not to mention end the knocking sounds.Good luck!
