Default Troubleshooting Antenna in '01 Civic

Forgive me for making this my first post, especially if this question's been asked before . I did a search but didn't come up with what I needed .

My dad's been complaining of poor/intermittent reception on his 2001 Civic EX . Both AM & FM, most of the time now there is no reception, but he says occasionally he'll try the radio and it will be coming in fine . Usually when this happens he hits a bump or a pothole a short time later and the radio cuts out again and stays off .
I thought it might be a loose antenna wire in the back of the radio (cutting out when you hit a bump) so I found some instructions to remove the radio but the antenna plug behind the head unit was securely in place .
My searches here showed that the '01 had an antenna integrated into the rear window (which explains why I couldn't find it )
So at this point I can't find any kind of guide to tell me where the antenna wire runs between the dash and the rear window, and I don't know how else to troubleshoot the stock antenna .
As an experiment I plugged a loose aftermarket antenna into the back of the radio and the reception was strong and clear, so I'm figuring it must be either the antenna wire or the antenna/window itself .

So, it boils down to two questions .. first, where does the antenna wire run from the radio to the rear window, and is there a plug where the wire connects to the antenna/window in the back ? (So I could replace just the wire if the antenna itself is still working) . Second, I metered the two contacts on the antenna wire where it plugs into the radio . Both the center connector (the round part) and the two side connectors (like the bits on the side of a cigarette lighter plug) showed that they had continuity to ground .
I'm no expert but that seems odd, shouldn't one or the other of those connectors not be grounded ? Could this be my problem, a short in the wire ? That might also explain it cutting out on bumps .

Any answers are hugely appreciated, I can't turn up any clear answers through my searches . Thanks guys !
