Default Honda Buttons function & stuff question?

Hi, ok so i just wanna know these things of my Honda Prelude 1991/92 Vtec, when i drive a S light keeps flashing on dash, i thought it was sport mode, but not sure, i have sport mode turned off and on still it flashes. there is another button in the middle where its like a |>-- sign what dose that do? When i start the car the "engine Check " button along few other buttons become on but after 2 secs or 3 they go away, reckon its normal?

the flashing S light is the car's way of letting you know that there is an electronic malfunction in the automatic transmission control circuit. That malfunction can be with any of the components in the system including all of the sensors, solenoids and the automatic transmission control unit. There are about 15 possibilities.typically the problem is with a bad vehicle speed sensor but I wouldn't jump to replacing that without first checking it out. When the light is blinking the control unit will store a diagnostic trouble code that indicates what component is not passing the on-board self-diagnostic test. Getting the code on that car requires jumping a terminal behind the glove box (or on top of the right kickpanel) and then counting the flashes of the check engine light. Its best to take the car to a Honda dealer or a capable techician and have them run the diagnostic to let you know what's wrong. Once you know what's wrong you can get an estimate to repair it and then make your decision.not sure of what the |> sign is but my memory of 1991 is a little hazy it is normal for the lights to come on for 5 seconds to let you know the bulbs are working. they go off after the bulb check unless there is a problem.hope that answers your question
