That was a nice looking body style. It would absolutely be a great first car. Just be sure to get one that is stock. You don't want one that has been modified, it will have been beat on. Try to get an EX Coupe with a 5 speed, they are very rare but worth looking for.

I can speak from experience as I drive a 93 EX sedan everyday to LA from Orange County. It has over 200k on it and never ever had a problem with it. I bought it from a friend who neglected it as I was always the one telling him to do this and that to maintain it. Needless to say I had enough and gave him an offer he couldn't refuse. In most cases it still gets over 30mpg and around 28 mpg city/traffic. Great car, and has a great followingwww.cb7tuner.com

I'd go for a 94-97 Accord. I sold mine and it was running very well at 135,000 miles. I put a lot of highway on that car as I was account executive - did my own regular detailing (inside & out). Did show the trademark rusting near the right side rear tire well - but I drove it 5 yrs in the Northeast (snow, treated roads, etc). The Accord I had prior to that was still great at 145,000 - had only replaced the clutch at 130,000. I would look at people selling it who are the original owner, and took good care of it. I kept all my maintenance records, and handed them over to the next owner. Once you drive it, you'll get a feeling if it doesn't drive well, tires, etc. Be sure to ask if it has been in accident, etc. Run a carfax on it.

Here's the deal! If the Accord has proper maintenance, 100,000 miles is not that bad. I'd take a guess and say you could get an additional 50,000+ miles out of that car. However, check for rust, especially around the wheel wells. Ask the owner where he/she had the car serviced and ask for the service records. Also look at the interior for wear and tear. That will tell you how well the owner took care of the car. I've had 4 Honda Accords and all of them were and are excellent vehicles. Good luck.

Our 1990 Accord EXR had 260,000 miles on it when we sold it for 1800.00 last year. Great car. PS: We are retired, live in the country and do a lot of highway driving.
