Only the US model 1997 Civic EX had ABS as standard equipment. It was optional on the Canadian market EX. It was not available on the LX model. The easiest way to tell if the car you are looking at has ABS is that cars equiped with ABS brakes have a warning light on the instrument panel that will light up for 5-7 seconds when you turn the ignition key on. The light is yellow and reads "ABS". It stays on when the system does a self-check and goes out when the components pass the on-board self-check.hope that answers your question
