Default can the main relay cause this on my 91 civic?

i know in the heat it wants to give me a hard time starting...and i KNOW that is the main relay problem.

but, i just replaced my battery since it is getting cold (which it really needed). sometimes now when i am driving the rpm's want to "dive" some when going through town. and it sometimes wants to not crank (will try to turn over, but not fully start up) when i first get in it throughout the day...kind of like it's not getting fuel.

since i know the relay is on its last legs, could that also be the culprit of this annoying problem now?
