would it be cheaper to get a fiberglass hood and get it painted or just buy a carbon fiber one

depends if you want quality or not.look at the corvette to save weight it use fiberglass for the last 50 years but being American it doesn't want to spend more then 25 cent so didn't upgrade to Carbon Fiber. If you walk up to the rear of a corvette where the boot is push the body work in with 1 finger...it will bounce inwards...that's how weak it is.Carbon Fiber is 3 times stronger then steel and 3 times lighter.

I would go CF simply for the BLING factor. But I am less impressed with it lately. the weight saving for my 04 civic si will only be about 10 pounds. That is not much weight reduction for 500 to 700 bucks.I could save 11 -16 pounds with a performance battery(150 to 190 bucks)Alum lower arms, alum lugs, lighter wheels, exhaust ...you got these yet? What u driving?

I agree with Brian C.A 15-20 lb weight reduction isn't that much for that kinda money. Is your car gutted? Because if you really want to reduce weight, that's the free way to do it. And if you have subwoofers in the back of your car, please don't get a light weight hood. That's just hipocritical in itself. If you need a lighter hood and you're planning on keeping this car for a long time, invest in the CF. And yeah, it does look pretty hot too.

It would be cheaper to buy a fiberglass hood, but you shouldnt worry about price. Fiberglass will be cheaper but it will also chip, crack, and break easier. You will also have more fitment problems than you would with a good quality carbon fiber setup.

10 lbs saving on CF is not worth my money! And I get turned off buying hopped up Hondas on Craigslist if they have a CF hood because it doesn't match with the paint of the car!
