6mpg seems excessive. There are 2 main reasons why cars gas mileage drops in cold weather:1) People tend to warm up their cars for a long time. Excessive idling will give you poor gas mileage. In most cases, idling for 30 seconds to 1 minute will be more than adequate for today's cars. If its really cold (-20 degrees celsius or below) then use a block heater instead of idling too long. 2) Tires are Under-inflated. There's a strong possibility that you haven't checked your tire pressure recently. With really cold weather, your tire pressure decreases. If you find your tires to be under inflated you will experience significantly poorer fuel economy. It is important to check tire pressures when seasons change.

...all good answers so far.also running your cars defrost and heater will contribute to lower milage also check your air filter,did you recently change where you purchase your gas?..perhaps some fuel injection cleaner may help...are you due for a tune-up?..plugs,wires etc.
