...bad?? Im kind of concerned that it may not last because it has a rather high mileage. I would be buying it from a dealer and trading in my 02 Cavalier with 80,000 miles to put towards it. I have seen the carfax report on this Civic, there has only been 1 owner of the vehichle and it has no major issues (according to the carfax report). But I dont know if I should be doing this. I really want the Civic. It looks really nice--it was obviously taken well care of by the previous and only owner. So, for 6400 is this a deal? Im worried that if I do buy it the timing belt could go at any time--I have no way of telling if it has baan changed before, or some other major mechanical catastrophe could happen. I also dont know a whole lot about cars anyways, so I really am in need of some fruitful advice. Everyone tells me that it isnt unusual for a Civic to last up to 250,000 miles without major problems. II need real, professional, and non-biased advice, please!.

Your best starting point is the willingness of the current owner to submit the car in question to a simple examination at a Honda dealer or specialist other than one the owner would promote. If the owner is willing, take the car and have it examined at your cost (around $150 or so) to see if there are any significant hidden problems that could make your $6000 investment go sour.Hondas are good cars if kept up properly. Granted the milage is high for the number of years it has been on the road. That's more justification to make sure it has been gone over.

Try $4200. I got my 99 HX MT 8 weeks ago for $3500 with 99,600 miles. Was a salvage title but everything runs perfect. Was hopped up too, but not extremely. I'm very happy getting 41 to 42.5 mpg!

Have it checked out. If everything is ok then buy it. Hondas run forever. I used to work at a Honda dealership. We had a 98 civic with 333,000 miles on it and it passed emissions with fast pass criteria. $6400 is a bit high though.
