Default 92 civic on highway?

I have a 92 civic but I have not driven on the highway in about two years. It seems as though everytime I get on the highway the car ends up smoking and/or going to the mechanic. It only reaches a speed of 55mph and once beyond that it seems as though the car can't handle higher speeds. But now I need it to go on the highway, so does anyone with a civic have this problem?

No. And if your car still does, I suggest you find a different mechanic.

I would find a new mechanic and have your car computer codes checked. When was the last time you had it in for a major service, how many miles are on it. Could be several reasons for the issues your having, carbon build up, fuel injector issues, burnt valves....Get it checked out because the longer you don't know whats wrong the higher the cost to repair if its major.

Try getting it serviced and fixing the oil leaks that drip on the exhaust. This sounds like negligence.
