I have a 98Honda civic and I was wondering if anyone knew if I can diagnose an o2 sensor myself.My car wont pass smog because of the catty,leak in exaust or o2 sensor. I'm pretty sure it's the o2 sensor but how can I tell?Is it like a spark plug? Pull it out of the cylinder and turn the car over to see if it sparks?

Sorry,U must have a diagnostic test run by a trained mechanic....some parts houses will run the test 4 free....but the answers may be wrong and sell you parts you don't need

unplug it with motor running for abt 1 min if posible, then reconnect it. If no change-something wrong. bad wiring possible-follow manual for testing-do NOT test without reading how to......

O2 censor isnt that expensive replace it and see if it runs better.If it has never been changed then it needs it. Mine had to be replaced when my car was only 3 years old. It lost gas mileage and a little power.

if your check engine light is on, and you have a code for it, you may need a new one, if i remember correctly your car has an extended emissions warinty, take it in and have honda give you free stuff! if i remember correctly the warinty is up to 150k give um a call ask first.. cause if it isn't under warinty .... it's gonna cost an arm and a leg (aprox 1200 for a honda cat)

honda will replace the cat for free as long as you are under 150k. they are know to crack where the o2 sensor goes in.
