Default Replacing Idol Air Control - 2000 Civic

It's been recommended to me my Idol Air Control Valve or IAC Motor may be burnt out or faulty and that I replace it... What are the symptoms of a car with that problem? How much might that cost to replace?

The car has been idling funny at start of car for very long time (in late fall and winter) ... Previously used to stall all the time while driving and coming to a stop... Also used to sputter intermittently, especially bad in cold weather... Check engine light has been on for a while now... Car is more driveable now since I got fuel filter changed along with air filter on T-giving weekend... Also they said the throttle body was "disgusting" ... They cleaned that too...Since it is close to the IAC, I think the cleaning has had a positive impact ... Still starting is a nightmare after it sits for a while... The only code that has come up in the past was a CAT code.

Thx.

the iacv should have been removed and cleaned with carb cleaner also.It will give you the symtoms you are having.I was having the same issue and have cleaned the iacv and no more starting and idle trouble.I would go to a parts store and check to see if your ecu is throwing any trouble code, call and see who does it for free.Mark

I think Auto Zone is pretty good about that kind of stuff... I'll get them to check it... I'll bring up your suggestion to the next mechanic I go to and see what happens... Thx... I'll post back...
