Default Im about to buy a salvaged 2000 Honda Accord for 1500$ is perfect except trans. Is this a good buy?

Im going to buy a salvaged accord for just 1500$. It runs like a dream but the transmission slips. Honda will replace it for 2300$ with a 3/36,000 warranty. Could it be anything other than a worn out transmission? Could it possibly be fixed with a trans. flush or replacement of a module? I would like to hear some advice before I drop 2300$ into it. It has 80,000 original miles, cranks and runs fine. 1-5 gear is smooth until it warms up. After that it slips when changing gears but runs like a dream after going into 5th gear on the highway. What do you think?

personally i would never get a car with a salvaged title because there could be more stuff wrong that know one knows about and it also means the frame has been damaged and thats never a good thing!

i don't agree with either of them...depending on why it was totaled out and the source the car is coming from...could have been in a wreck, stolen or flood damaged....just depends on why it was totaled in the first place.... i would stay away from flood damaged cars... they will cause more problems than they are worth with electrical problems etc. just find out first before buying what happened to it and what was done to repair the damages... as for the trans you could try flushing it... maybe take it to a trans shop and see what they think before dropping the big money into it... most will diagnose it for free or a minimumal charge..... best of luck

You have to ask us? If you have to ask us, that tells you that you don't actually have the ability to determine whether it's a good deal or not. Maybe you already know that. In that case, you actions are either1. Don't buy it, or 2. Decide to take a risk, based on what you think the possible outcomes are, and what the likelihood is of each outcome.Either action is fine. $1500 is nothing, but of course if you add $2300, you're going to want some value for that. This question, "Could it be anything other than a worn out transmission?" bothers me. Somebody good is going to have to figure that out, and it's tough. Nobody knows the future, even a brilliant mechanic.

That is a common problem with 2000 Accord automatic transmission. Even if you replace the transmission with a rebuilt one, it would go out in few years. proceed only if you can get sell the car for $4500 after the repair.

I don't think you should buy it. Never buy a salvaged car. It could have been a flood car. The transmission is one of the most important things on a vehicle.
