Disconnecting 2001 Civic Cruise Control
I recently was in an accident that mashed up the front end of my Civic, and insurance didn't cover repairs. I had the engine work done (radiator, fan, engine mounts, and many other things) but recently the cruise control stuck on a few days later -- nothing shut it down, including braking and turning it off, so I had to put it in neutral and cruise to the side of the road, where after a second it stopped accelerating.
I figured, "well, I just won't use my cruise until I can afford to get it fixed." However, last night, even though it was off (both on the dash and, of course, on the steering wheel), it kicked in again and I had to repeat my actions of the week before. Unfortunately it never stopped accelerating and I had to have it towed home.
It's not the accelerator cable, as the accelerator works fine. I can't afford a repair at this point, so I'm hoping to simply disconnect it.
What I could use from you folks is some clues as to how to do so. I know where the cruise control is under the hood, and I think I can tell where the line goes down to the accelerator pedal, but am not sure what to do to disable it.
Any suggestions? I'd sure appreciate it.
