Well it depends. The only cams you can put in your car without replacing the valves, valve springs, and retainers are the stage 1 cams. What the cams will actually do is smooth out the powerband in the lower to mid RPM's and give you a more aggressive cam profile in VTEC. The HP gain will be seen mostly in the upper RPM range but it will feel like more because of the smoother power in the mid and lower end.

You didn't say whether you drive the 4 cyl. or the V6. The V6 will readily accept the Acura Gen 2 TL/CL Type S cams...that's the J32A2 engine. I've provided but one link, thought there are several out there that even describe the install process. The improvements come with VTEC, secondary cam engagement only. The driver of one such mod posted significant 'seat of the pants' improvement...this would make sense for the Gen6 V6 Accord ('98-'02, model J30A1) consdering how the engine was only mildly tuned (200HP vs. 244HP from Gen7 engine). BTW, the Gen6 Accord's VTEC system was tuned more for economy (similar to the Civic HX) than for maximizing power. One potential problem described with swapping in the Acura cams was the risk from not swapping in stronger valve springs to prevent the valves from 'floating' during VTEC engagement. It was surmised that the valves may require more frequent adjustment...however, I've yet to find a blog specific to the mod that assess the reality/significance of this issue. This would not be a particularly expensive modification, and I recall that the cams were in the $200 range (less the gaskets). It would be worthwhile to do some searches to find those blogs...think they might have been on 'V6 Performance', 'Temple of VTEC', or on the 'Acurazine' websites.
