If my memory serves me, I believe the Type-R engine was built in a different fashion, with lower weight, stronger internals, ad a higher compression ratio. In other words, EXTRA VTEC y0!

What car are you talking about exactly?Let's say you're talking about the 3rd generation Integra (in the US it's called the Acura Integra, anywhere else it's the Honda Integra)GS-R: B18C1 engine, equipped with a dual-stage intake manifold and a displacement of 1.8 liters, producing 170 hpType R: B18CR engine producing 195 hp(The "R" stands for Racing, Type R models are special performance editions originally conceived for racetracks. The design of Type R models was originally focused on race conditions, with an emphasis on minimizing weight, and maximizing performance potential.)Both of these engines are VTEC engines, VTEC just stands for Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control, it is a valve train system developed by Honda to improve the volumetric efficiency of a four-stroke internal combustion engineIf you want to learn more about VTEC you can go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VTEC
