Has anyone heard this? I recently wrecked my 05 Civic special edition coupe (very sad) and totaled it and now I was thinking of getting a new accord. My dad told me to hold off until next year or sometime after because Honda is supposed to be coming out with an accord running off diesel and getting about 65MPG. It sounds fantastic but is it real?? I won't be recieving much for my wrecked car but do have to pay down on another vehicle before I buy my new car. I like the 08 accords.... If you have heard about the diesel thing, how long away until this happens?

It is possible, I have been looking into getting a hybrid and ended up researching diesels. These are very popular in Europe, burn clean, quiet, partially use methanol (from plans), and get tons of miles. 65 mpg is very possible for an Accord. I heard of a small car putting out 85 mpg (already in operation in Europe....).

yes your dad is correct. honda came out with the new accord this year as an 08 model. they discontinued the hybrid because of poor sells. honda is instead making a diesel accord but it wont be coming out until next year as an 09 model. so you will have to wait about 1 year for one. however, honda has yet to release mpg estimates, so the whole 65 mpg thing, i dont know where your dad found that number ; )diesel vehicles USUALLY get about 25% better gas mileage than their unleaded gas counterparts. so....being as the accord averages about 25 mpg (in mixed city and hwy driving) I would guess that the diesel will get about 31 mpg (in mixed city and hwy driving).
