i have a 2002 honda accord SE that is totally due for a tune up. I am tired to paying high labor rates and will like to just be a man and do it myself. I need to find out though:1) what parts i will need to replace2) Which replacement options are the best3) What tools do i need to have, how much do they cost and where do i get them4) Finally, is there anything i havent asked? if there is pls feel free to add it to the rest of my questionsThe tune up is just for regular use and not for racing........its in preparation of winter mostly

Start with an oil and filter change. You can replace the spark plugs and air filter. check your other fluids. transmission fluid, wiper fluid, brake fluid, and antifreeze. You shouldn't need any special tools. you can get a filter wrench and spark plug ratchet at any automotive parts store such as pep boys, autozone, o'reillys or napa.

Depends on what kinda tune up you want. Race or just simple mods. Honda Tuning magazine can help and they also have a web site also. Try starting with an air intake, fairly cheap at most corner auto stores and then headers and cams when the money comes around.

A typical tune up requires:60-100k typical tune up range.Spark plugsPlug wiresDistributor capDistributor rotorAir filter (every 30k)Change oil and filterCheck all fluids. To be honest you don't have to use genuine Honda parts, Napa or any other auto parts store, the parts will normally have lifetime warranties if not they are fairly respectable warranties and in most cases are better performers and less expensive. Shop around and look for great warranties, I bought brake rotors years back with a lifetime warranty and whenever they wear I get new ones for free. I haven't paid for brakes in years because of it. As for tools you should only need a socket set and screw drivers. (tools I use for my 1998 accord tune ups) 180k still going strong!when changing wires, cap and rotor. cap and wires: make sure you change one wire at a time do not mix up the firing order, how they are attached to the distributor cap.when changing rotor (underneath the distributor cap) make sure you are careful not to move the rotor and replace the new one the exact way the original was facing.
