I just purchased a new Honda civic EX (2008, 5 speed). With my old car, I always roll-started it down my street (coast to about 20 mph, than pop the clutch in 2nd gear to start the engine.) Would it be okay to do it in my new car. It has a lot more electronics and such, and I want to make sure that a roll/compression start wouldn't damage anything!

Ussually wont hurt anything, i dont do this too much as it is very hard on the clutch. I used to do it a lot with my 95 Civic racecar if the bat died. The only problem i had is it eventually cause the springs in the clutch hub to break. But i dunno if that was due to the starts, or the abuse of racing...

replacing a starter is always going to be cheaper than replacing your clutch... think big picture... besides... you bought a quiet car... unless you have some one with super sonic hearing why bother? it isn't going to hurt the car if it is only done in a pinch.... but you will wear your clutch faster as well as your internals of your trans, as well as add un needed stress to other parts of the car i.e. c.v. shafts.

| I hesitate to askI have recently developed a severe hesitation problem. Cyl 1 shows compression of 120. Other 3 have 150. If I squirt oil into 1, it also shows 150. There has been no change in compression or vacuum (18), but the hesitation and | tom | Honda 2 | 4 | 16 Apr 2005 04:42 pm |
