I just bought a 1986 honda civic with a 1.5L carburated (sp) engine. Now, there is no tach so i cant tell you what RPM but when in lower RPMs in a gear the engine ticks very rapidly when I give any more than light light throttle. It sounds like it is too lean. The reason i say that is i had a fuel injected saab with a very pinched fuel line that made the same noise until I fixed the fuel line. I don't know much about carburator tuning so I am looking for help or ideas on how to fix this ticking noise. thanks.You ave mentioned the Valves. Why would the valve noise only happen under large loads? (over 25%)

Sounds more like the valves need adjusting.

Quit floating a bad valve.
